Pangkor Island Ferry: Schedule, Prices, and How to Get There

The PAN SILVER 1 Pangkor Island ferry departing Lumut Jetty at dawn with Pangkor Island's forested hills in the background

The Pangkor Island ferry is one of those rare travel experiences where you share the journey with the people who actually live there. Teachers heading to school, mechanics returning to work, delivery drivers loading supplies — the same boats that bring visitors to the island keep the local community connected to the mainland every single day.

That is good news for anyone planning a visit. Because the Pangkor Island ferry serves an active local community, it runs frequently throughout the day and operates year-round. Pangkor Island has no monsoon closure season, which means you can plan a trip in any month without worrying about ferry disruptions or seasonal closures.

Depending on which mainland jetty you board from, the crossing takes 10 to 20 minutes. This guide covers the full picture — terminal locations, schedule, ticket prices, and how to get to the jetty from Kuala Lumpur or Ipoh — so you know exactly what to expect before you arrive.

One important note: if you are travelling to Pangkor Laut Island, the resort runs its own private ferry. That is a separate service from the public Pangkor Island ferry covered in this guide.

Where Does the Pangkor Island Ferry Depart From?

There are two mainland jetties serving the Pangkor Island ferry. Most visitors use Lumut Jetty, but Marina Island Jetty is worth knowing about depending on where you are coming from.

Lumut Jetty

Lumut Terminal Jeti in Lumut town, Perak — the main terminal building for the Pangkor Island ferry. Look for the colourful Pangkor signage and the tower when navigating to the jetty from Lumut town centre.

Lumut Jetty is the main terminal for the Pangkor Island ferry and the one most travellers use. It sits in Lumut town in Perak state, roughly 160km north of Kuala Lumpur. The jetty is straightforward to find — it is right in the town centre, with a ticket counter, waiting area, and parking nearby. The crossing from Lumut Jetty to Pangkor Island takes approximately 20 minutes.

Marina Island Jetty

Marina Island Jetty terminal building in Lumut, Perak — a modern alternative to Lumut Jetty with a dedicated drop-off point, Silver Lounge, and a shorter 10-minute crossing to Pangkor Island

Marina Island is a reclaimed island connected to the Lumut mainland by a short causeway. The jetty here also serves the Pangkor Island ferry and offers a shorter crossing of around 10 minutes. If you are driving and coming from the Lumut direction, Marina Island Jetty can be a convenient alternative. Marina Island Jetty also has more daily departures and better terminal facilities than Lumut Jetty.

Arrival point on Pangkor Island

Both mainland jetties drop passengers at Pangkor Jetty on the island side. From there, you can hire a motorcycle taxi or rent a bike to reach your accommodation.

Where to Buy Your Pangkor Island Ferry Ticket

The purchasing process is different at each jetty, so read this carefully before you arrive.

Lumut Jetty — Counter or Online

The centralised ticketing counter at Lumut Jetty — purchase your Pangkor Island ferry ticket here on the day or book in advance at easybook.com. Counter accepts cash only.

At Lumut Jetty the process is straightforward. Walk to the ticket counter and purchase your Pangkor Island ferry ticket on the day. The counter accepts cash only — no card payments. If you prefer to book online, tickets are available through PangkorFerry.com or easybook.com, but you still need to stop at the counter on arrival to collect a physical ticket with your assigned seat number. This ticket also serves as your boarding pass.

Arrive at least 30 minutes before your departure. The team will begin ushering passengers to the ferry 15 minutes before it departs — if you are not in the waiting area by then, you may lose your seat.

Marina Island Jetty — Registration First, Then Ticket

Marina Island Jetty has an additional step that most visitors are not expecting. Before you can purchase a Pangkor Island ferry ticket at the counter, every passenger in your group must be registered at the Booking Registration counter first. Staff will enter each person’s details into the system and issue you a registration ID. Only after completing this step can you proceed to buy your ticket.

If you have already booked online through PangkorFerry.com, you can skip the registration queue and go directly to the counter to collect your physical ticket and seat number.

The registration room is clearly signed — look for the blue “Booking Registration” sign at Marina Island Jetty before heading to the ticket window.

Important Ticket Conditions

Pangkor Island ferry tickets are non-refundable once purchased. Seating is assigned by ticket number — your seat is printed on the ticket and must be honoured on board. One-way tickets are available to Pangkor Island residents only; residents are required to present their IC when purchasing. All other passengers receive a return ticket.

Fares and process verified on 21 May 2026. Confirm current fares at pangkorferry.my before travel.

How Long Is the Pangkor Island Ferry Ride?

The Pangkor Island ferry ride takes 20 minutes from Lumut Jetty and 10 minutes from Marina Island Jetty. Both routes arrive at Pangkor Jetty on the island side.

The boats are enclosed with air-conditioned seating inside and an open deck at the rear. Seating is assigned — your seat number is printed on your ticket, so boarding is straightforward once you are through the gate.

Lumut Jetty or Marina Island Jetty — Which Should You Choose?

For most international tourists the answer comes down to how you are travelling to Lumut and where you are staying on Pangkor Island.

Choose Lumut Jetty if:

  • You are arriving by bus — Lumut Bus Terminal is a short walk from Lumut Jetty
  • You prefer a straightforward process with no pre-registration step
  • You are paying cash for your ticket on the day
  • You are travelling during a quieter weekday with no advance booking

Choose Marina Island Jetty if:

  • You are arriving by private transfer or driving — Marina Island has easier drop-off access and dedicated parking
  • You have already booked your ticket online through PangkorFerry.com — skip the registration queue and go straight to the counter
  • You want a shorter crossing — 10 minutes versus 20 minutes from Lumut Jetty
  • You want more departure options — nine daily sailings compared to eight from Lumut
  • You are catching a later return — the last ferry from Pangkor back to Marina Island departs at 6.45pm, thirty minutes later than the Lumut last return at 6.15pm
  • You want a more comfortable wait — Marina Island’s Silver Lounge offers air-conditioned seating, a complimentary drink, and express boarding for RM15 per adult

Jetty Facilities: What to Expect Before You Board

Marina Island Jetty has the better facilities of the two terminals by a clear margin. The terminal building is modern with a 7-Eleven convenience store for snacks and drinks, outdoor seating, prayer room, and clean toilets. The Silver Lounge sits on the upper level with air-conditioned seating and sea views. For international tourists who may arrive early or need to wait between connections, Marina Island is a comfortable place to spend that time.

Lumut Jetty

The covered hawker area adjacent to Lumut Jetty — stall hours are unreliable and were closed on both visits by this editor. Stock up on food and drinks before arriving at the terminal, especially for early departures.

Lumut Jetty is a working ferry terminal first and a tourist facility second. The jetty serves the local community — island residents, delivery drivers, and workers commuting daily between Pangkor Island and the mainland. There is a covered hawker area adjacent to the terminal, but stall operating hours are unreliable. On two separate visits by this editor, the hawkers were closed. Do not rely on finding food or drinks at Lumut Jetty before your crossing. Stock up beforehand if you are catching an early departure.

This difference in character reflects the two terminals accurately: Marina Island has been developed with visitors in mind, while Lumut Jetty remains a functional working port. Both get you to Pangkor Island — but the experience waiting to board is noticeably different.

Marina Island Silver Lounge — Worth Knowing About

The Silver Lounge interior at Marina Island Jetty — air-conditioned leather seating with a direct view across the strait toward Pangkor Island. Available to Pangkor Island ferry passengers at RM15 per adult, free for children under 12.

Marina Island Jetty offers one facility that Lumut Jetty does not: the Silver Lounge, a paid waiting area for passengers who want a more comfortable pre-boarding experience.

What the Silver Lounge includes:

  • Air-conditioned lounge with comfortable seating and sea views
  • Complimentary drink on arrival
  • Express boarding lane onto the Pangkor Island ferry before general passengers
  • Dedicated parking space

Walk-in pricing:

  • Adult: RM15 per entry
  • Child (below 12 years): Free

The lounge is located inside the Marina Island Jetty terminal building. If you are travelling with young children, elderly passengers, or simply want to avoid the general waiting area on a hot day, the Silver Lounge is a practical option at a reasonable price. The express boarding lane is particularly useful during busy weekends when the general boarding queue can be long.

Getting Around Pangkor Island After You Arrive

Once you disembark at Pangkor Jetty, transport is available immediately on the island side. You do not need to pre-book anything — pink taxis, motorcycle rentals, and self-drive car hire are all arranged on arrival at the jetty.

Pink taxis are the most visible option — bright pink Toyota vans with fixed fares covering all major destinations on the island, from Pasir Bogak to Coral Bay and Teluk Nipan. Motorcycle rental starts from RM30 per day for a gear-type bike and RM40 for an automatic scooter, with a three-day deal available if you are staying longer. Self-drive car rental is also available at the jetty for families or groups who prefer four wheels, though parking near the main beaches can be limited during weekends and public holidays.

There is no e-hailing service on Pangkor Island. Grab and similar apps do not operate here — all transport is arranged in person at the jetty or through your accommodation.

For the full breakdown of fares, rental rates, and which transport option suits your group, see the Getting Around Pangkor Island guide.

The Practical Recommendation for Tourists Coming from Kuala Lumpur

If you are travelling from KL by private transfer, Marina Island Jetty is the better choice on almost every measure — shorter crossing, more departures, later last ferry, online booking, and the Silver Lounge option. Your driver drops you at the door, you collect your tickets at the counter, and you board with priority access.

Your Return Journey — How It Works on the Island

Two ferry ticket counters at Pangkor Island Jetty — yellow counter on the left for Lumut Jetty ferry returns and dark brown Marina Island Ticket Counter on the right for Marina Island Jetty returns
The two return ticket counters at Pangkor Island Jetty — yellow counter (left) for passengers returning to Lumut Jetty, and the Marina Island Ticket Counter (right, dark brown) for passengers returning to Marina Island Jetty. Book your return slot at the correct counter as soon as you arrive on the island.

Your Pangkor Island ferry ticket covers both directions. The outbound trip is fixed to your booked date and time. The return leg is open — you decide when to come back based on how long you want to stay on the island.

When you arrive at Pangkor Jetty, you will find the ticket counter on the island side. There are two ways to handle your return:

Option 1 — Book your return slot on arrival (recommended)

Go to the Pangkor Jetty ticket counter as soon as you arrive and reserve your preferred return date and departure time. This secures your seat on the specific boat you want. Do this before heading to your accommodation or starting your day — it takes only a few minutes and removes all uncertainty.

Option 2 — Walk in on the day

If you have not reserved a return slot, go to the Pangkor Jetty counter on the day you plan to leave and request the next available departure. This works on quieter weekdays, but during weekends and Malaysian public holidays the ferry fills up quickly. You may end up waiting for a later boat than planned.

The recommended approach is Option 1. Booking your return slot on arrival costs nothing extra and guarantees you leave the island when you intend to.

How to Get to the Ferry Terminal

To reach the Pangkor Island ferry terminal, you need to get to Lumut in Perak — approximately 160km north of Kuala Lumpur. From there, you board from either Lumut Jetty or Marina Island Jetty depending on your preference.

For a full breakdown of transport options from Kuala Lumpur including driving, bus, and private transfer, see our dedicated guide: How to Get to Pangkor Island.

Is There a Ferry to Pangkor Laut Island?

Pangkor Laut Resort private ferry jetty at Marina Island in Lumut showing luxury yachts moored on the left and the resort ferry docked on the right — a separate facility from the public Pangkor Island ferry
The Pangkor Laut Resort private ferry jetty at Marina Island, Lumut — a completely separate facility from the public Pangkor Island ferry. This jetty is for Pangkor Laut Resort guests only and is not accessible to the general public.

Pangkor Laut Island is a separate island located south of Pangkor Island, and it is not served by the public Pangkor Island ferry. The only way to reach Pangkor Laut is via the private resort ferry operated exclusively by Pangkor Laut Resort for its guests.

There are three important distinctions to understand:

Different Island

Pangkor Laut is a completely separate island from Pangkor Island. The two are often confused by first-time visitors because their names are similar, but they are different destinations with different ferry services, different jetties, and different access arrangements.

Resort Guests Only

The Pangkor Laut Resort ferry is not a public service. It operates solely for guests who have booked accommodation at Pangkor Laut Resort. There is no walk-in access, no public ticket counter, and no way to board the resort ferry without a confirmed reservation at the resort.

Different Departure Point

The Pangkor Laut Resort ferry departs from Marina Island Jetty — the same terminal as the public Pangkor Island ferry — but from a separate boarding area. Resort staff will direct confirmed guests to the correct departure point on arrival.

If you are heading to Pangkor Laut Resort, contact the resort directly for their private ferry arrangement. If you are heading to Pangkor Island, use the public Pangkor Island ferry from Lumut Jetty or Marina Island Jetty as covered in this guide.

Tips Before You Board the Pangkor Island Ferry

Arrive early — 30 minutes minimum

Both jetties require passengers to be in the waiting area at least 30 minutes before departure. At Lumut Jetty, the gate closes and boarding begins 15 minutes before the scheduled time. If you arrive late you will miss your boat even if it is still docked. Factor in time for parking, ticket collection, and walking to the terminal.

As soon as you arrive at the jetty, go straight to the ticket counter first. Get your ticket and seat number secured before you do anything else — eat, use the facilities, or explore the terminal. With your ticket in hand you know exactly which boat you are on and when to be at the gate.

Book online where possible

Online booking through PangkorFerry.com or easybook.com secures your seat number in advance and reduces time spent at the counter. This is particularly useful during Malaysian school holidays and long weekends when walk-in queues at both jetties can be long. Counter tickets at Lumut Jetty are cash only — bring Malaysian Ringgit.

Marina Island registration takes extra time

If you are using Marina Island Jetty and buying at the counter, remember the registration step. Every passenger must register at the Booking Registration counter before purchasing a ticket. Build an extra 15–20 minutes into your schedule to account for this, especially if you are travelling in a group.

Watch the last ferry time

The last Pangkor Island ferry from Pangkor Jetty back to Lumut departs at 6.15pm. The last return to Marina Island departs at 6.45pm. Missing the last ferry means an unplanned overnight stay on the island. If you are on a day trip, set a reminder and leave the beach earlier than you think you need to.

Book your return slot on arrival

As covered earlier — go to the ticket counter at Pangkor Jetty as soon as you arrive and reserve your return slot. Do not leave this until the day you plan to leave, especially during weekends and public holidays when boats fill quickly.

What to bring on the crossing

The boat has air-conditioned seating inside and an open deck at the rear. The crossing is short — 10 minutes from Marina Island, 20 minutes from Lumut — but the open deck can be windy and spray is possible. Keep bags and electronics inside the cabin if the sea is choppy. There are no food or beverage services on board.

Fuel surcharge applies

A fuel surcharge of RM1.60 per adult trip applies from 20 April 2026. This is added on top of the base fare at the time of purchase. Budget RM21.60 return per adult including the surcharge rather than the RM20.00 base fare shown on older pricing boards.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Pangkor Island Ferry

The first Pangkor Island ferry from Lumut Jetty departs at 7.15am. From Marina Island Jetty the first departure is also at 7.15am. On the island side, the first ferry from Pangkor Jetty back to Lumut departs at 6.30am, and the first return to Marina Island departs at 6.45am. Arrive at the waiting area at least 30 minutes before your scheduled departure.

The last Pangkor Island ferry from Pangkor Jetty to Lumut departs at 6.15pm. The last return ferry to Marina Island Jetty departs at 6.45pm. If you are on a day trip, Marina Island gives you an extra thirty minutes on the island before you need to head back to the jetty.

The Pangkor Island ferry ticket costs RM10.00 per adult one way, making the return base fare RM20.00. A fuel surcharge of RM1.60 per trip applies from 20 April 2026, bringing the total return cost to RM21.60 per adult. Children aged 2 to 12 pay RM5.50 one way. Children under 2 travel free. Fares verified May 2026.

The crossing from Lumut Jetty to Pangkor Island takes approximately 20 minutes. From Marina Island Jetty the crossing is around 10 minutes. Both routes arrive at Pangkor Jetty on the island side.

Pangkor Island ferry tickets can be booked in advance online through PangkorFerry.com and easybook.com. Booking in advance secures your assigned seat number and is strongly recommended during Malaysian school holidays, public holidays, and weekends when walk-in queues at both jetties can be long. Counter tickets at Lumut Jetty are cash only.

Yes. There is no formal luggage restriction on the Pangkor Island ferry, but space on board is limited. Large suitcases are manageable but bulky in the cabin. If you are travelling with oversized bags, arrive early so you can find space before the boat fills. Keep valuables and electronics inside the air-conditioned cabin rather than leaving them on the open deck where sea spray can reach.

Both jetties serve the Pangkor Island ferry but offer a different experience. Lumut Jetty is the older, more basic terminal used heavily by local islanders and goods delivery — the crossing takes 20 minutes and tickets are purchased at the counter with cash. Marina Island Jetty is a modern terminal with a 7-Eleven, Silver Lounge, online booking, and a shorter 10-minute crossing. Marina Island also has nine daily departures compared to eight from Lumut, and its last return ferry from Pangkor is 30 minutes later.

The Pangkor Laut ferry is not the same as the public Pangkor Island ferry — it is a private resort service exclusively for Pangkor Laut Resort guests. Pangkor Laut is a separate island south of Pangkor Island and has no public ferry access. The resort ferry departs from a dedicated area at Marina Island Jetty and is only available to guests with a confirmed reservation at Pangkor Laut Resort.
